Takhaji temple , Taxakeshawar temple
The waterfalls, where the river Takhali falls down from a
height of 200 feet, merges into a water pool filled with beauty and serenity.
Beside this pool, surrounded by greenery stands the Taxakeshwar temple, which
the locals call as Takhaji temple. This is the abode of Taxak, the serpent
king. The idol of the serpent king is believed to have been installed during
the 12th century.

Legend
Legend says that Parikshit, the heir of Pandavas died due to
snake bit. His son Janamejaya who bore a deep grudge against the serpents
performed a great Sarpa satra - a yagna that would destroy all living snakes or
Nagas. All the nagas were killed in this nagayagna except Taxaka, who is
believed to have obtained boon from Lord Vishnu. Local tradition goes that
Taxaka resides here in this place. The local beliefs says that Dhanvantari, who
was killed by Taxaka also reside here.
Architecture
The temple tinted in white, is quite simple in its
architecture. The temple is built with stones and bricks, and has a small
pyramid roof. Idol of Taxaka is with seven serpent hoods protecting from above.
In one hand of Taxaka is a human head. Taxaka's wife and son are present on
either side of the idols. In front of the statue of Taxaka is the statue of
Dhanvantari. The main temple has also the statue of Shiva, considered as the
Lord of Taxaka.
Culture
Mandsaur, a city in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh is
rich in archaeological and historical heritage.
Mandsaur and its neighbourhood are filled with Hindu and Jain ruins and
forts built during the time of Kings of Malwa. Hinglajgarh fort is one of the
prominent among them.

The local vaidyas collect medicinal herbs for treatment only after
worshiping Dhanavantari at this temple.
