Pulimukham Devi Temple
Located in Thazhava, Kollam, Pulimukham Devi Temple is a
hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Bhadra Bhagavati. Other than Bhadra
Bhagavati, there are many Upadevathas (Sub-Deities) adjacent to the temple.
Yakshi, Ganesha, Nagaraja, Naga Yakshi and Rekshas are the other main
Upadevathas in the temple premises.

Architecture
Pulimukham Devi Temple is built in traditional Kerala style
of architecture. There is a Kavu (A patch of small forest which houses the
serpent gods) adjacent to the temple.
Culture
Thazhava in Kollam district of Kerala is a small beautiful
village. Here many seek a livelihood based on Thazha or screw pine. Screw pine
weaving of mats is one of the oldest crafts popular in Thazhava. Even though
now the weaving of screw pine mats have been comparatively reduced than the earlier
times, there exists few traditional weavers who still continue this profession.
Mats are now being exported within as well as outside India.

Famous Festival
April - Meena Bharani
The "Pulimukham Bharani" is in the month of Meenam
and the day which has the star Bharani and hence the name Meena Bharani. The
highlight of the festival is Kuthiyottam and Kettukazhcha and Khosha Yatra and
Pongala. Pongala-Pongala festival.
Temple Rituals
The Parayaduppu festival in all the temples of Onattukara
starts with the deity of Pulimukham temple is taken out in procession. The main
part of Parayeduppu is the Jeevatha constructed in the model of the temple
structure itself. This box-like carriage for the deity rests on two teakwood
poles about two meters long, and is in the form of a palanquin. The front
resembles Thidambu behind which is a kind of pettakam (small chest) built as
per Thachusaasthra calculations. Up front is a woollen cloth embroidered with
shining, colourful pictures and gold trinkets. Behind that is kept the deity's
holy dress, starched and pleated, and decorated with small golden pieces. The
deity will visit her devotees in all the karas during these three days.
Special Rituals
The main Upadevathas in the temple premises are Yakshi,
Ganesha, Nagaraja, Naga Yakshi and Rekshas.
A Kavu (a patch of small forest which houses the serpent
Gods), Karimbana tree and Ezhilam Pala tree are also worshipped on the belief
that they house Gandharvas and Yakshis.
