Legend

The legend believes that a dhobi was washing his clothes on a stone near the river Shivana. One day, the Lord came to his dreams and said that the washing stone was actually his image. The  dhobi along with the villagers tried to move the idol to Ujjain so that he could be worshipped there. The idol however refused to move. The villagers then decided to build a temple at Mandasur itself. During the monsoon season, the river rises to cover the Shiv Linga. The devotees consider it a Jalabhisheka by the river.
