Nava Tirupathi Yatra
Legend
The Alwars(Azhcar) were poets, saints and above all the devotees of Lord Vishnu, who lived around 2500 years ago. They embraced the divinity of Lord Vishnu and expressed their reverence through their songs of devotion. The collection of their hymns known as Divya Prabandha, adopts 108 Vishnu temples as the most cherished places of worship. Of the 108 temples, 105 are in India, one is in Nepal, and last two are outside the earthly realms. There are nine divyadesam temples located on the banks of river Thambirapani near Tirunelveli. The nine shrines were visited by Nammazhvar and he sung his hymns to please the Lord here. In these temple, the deity is also regarded as representing the presiding Graha of the shrine, the nine shrines representative of each of the navagrahas.
