Legend
Along with the rains, the month of Karkidakom, since time immemorial,
is associated with famine, illness and hardships. To overcome these,
the people of the state since the ancient times have resorted to various
ayurvedic treatments as well as spiritual betterment. Chanting of
Ramayana at homes and shrines is a common facet of the month. Centuries
ago, when vehicles and roads remained inaccessible, the people around
Thrissur started the practice of pilgrimage to these temples as an
arduous ritual undertaken to get the blessings of the Lord to ward of
the obstacles. Over years, with improvement in infrastructure, the
pilgrimage to Nalambalam has become a far more easier yet a journey that
devotees deeply believe would help them in the difficult times.
