Meera Temple Chittorgarh
Meera Bhai, a poet, saint, and exponent of 'Prema Bhakti' or
divine love is considered the most prominent devotee of Lord Krishna. Some
regard her as an incarnation of Radha. Though many stories about her life are
not authenticated, Chittogarh is regarded as her birth place. The Meera temple
inside the Chittogarh fort is known as the shrine where she worshipped her
lord, singing his hymns and praying to his divinity. The temple is believed to
have built by Rajput king Maharana Kumbha for Meera.

Legend
Meera was a sixteenth century Rajput princess, who had
dedicated her life to Lord Krishna from her childhood days. Though there are
contradicting stories about her life, some believe that she was married to Rana
Sang who died soon thereafter. Maharana Kumbha built the temple so that Meera
would stay in Chittargarh and could continue her worship to the Lord. There are
many stories associated with Meera and this temple. One among them is that Rana
Vikramaditya who wanted Meera dead sent a bowl of poison saying that it was the
holy water from Lord's feet. Meera drank the poison which due to her devotion
changed into nectar.
Architecture
The temple is a beautiful architectural construction. There
is a carved statue of the five human bodies and one head signifying that there
humans are one, irrespective of caste and creed. The shrine for Lord Krishna
has a charming deity of the Lord, by the foot of whom idol of Meera sits
singing her bhajans. The carved Shikhara, the pillars and the walls add to the
beauty of the shrine
Culture
Chittorgarh was the former capital of the Sisodia Dynasty of
Mewar. Chittorgarh Fort, is the largest fort in India and Asia. It is known for
its fort as well as being the land of worship for Meera.
