Bhrigu Rishi Temple
One of the Saptrishis of Indian mythology, Sage Bhrigu is
highly revered in Hinduism for his wisdom and knowledge. The Bhrigu Rishi
shrine, situated near the river Narmada, is dedicated to the divinity of the
great saint. Rishi Bhrigu is credited with writing the first-ever book on Indian
Astrology, the Bhrigu Samhita. The temple was built between 1675A.D to 1686A.D
by the Maratha rulers, and has undergone many repairs and renovations during
the later years.

Legend
The temple is built in dedication to Rishi Bhrigu. The
shrine is believed to be where the ashram of the Sage was situated. It is
believed that Bhrigu Rishi wrote first Indian Astrological work, Bhrigu Samhita
at this very spot of the shrine. He is said to have documented five million
horoscopes in the book. It is also believe that, it was here the great saint
told Ganesh Purana to King Somakanta.
Architecture
The temple of Bhrigu
Rishi is divided into two sections. The first part houses Bhrigu Rishi,
Jamadagni Maharishi, Renuka Mata and Parasurama, Lord Ganesh idols. The second
part, which is the core of the temple, is again divided into two portions. One
portion has Lord Narayana idol, four vedas in the form of Shiva lingas, and
idols of Dashavataras. The second portion contains Jwaleshwar mahadev, who was
worshiped by Bhrigu maharishi. Ganesh, Hanuman, Lord Narayan and Lakshmi mata,
Vallabhacharya deities are also present
in this room.
Culture
Bharuch was a ship building center and sea port since the
early ages of history. Bharuch has been the home to the Gujarati Bhargav
Brahmin community for ages. The community traces its lineage to Bhrigu Rishi
and Lord Parshuram. The rain (Meghraja) festival celebrated in Bharuch during
monsoon season is unique and attracts a lot of devotees.
