On the banks of the gushing waters of Kukadi river, in the
small village of Ozar, stands the vibrant temple of Shri Vigneshwara, wherein
Lord Ganesha resides in the form of Vignahara, the remover of obstacles. The
Vigneshwara Temple was built by Chimaji Appa, in 1785, after the conquest of
Vasai fort from Portuguese. He also covered the dome in gold. It then underwent
renovation in 1833 A.D. In 1967, it was again reconstructed by Ganesha devotee
Appa Shastri Joshi.

Legend
Furious at King Abhinandan for not giving him any offering,
King Indra send Kaala in the form of demon Vignasura to create obstacles in the universe. On request
of the concerned sages, Lord Ganesha battled the demon. Vignasura surrendered
in the battle and it was arranged that he would be present only in places where
Ganesha is not invoked. Ganesha thus took the name of Vigneshwara or Vignahara.

Architecture
The shrine of Lord Vigneshwara parades colourful wall murals
and sculptures. The Vigneshwara Temple dome richly hued with ornate sculptures
has a gold at its peak. The entrance is guarded by the sculptures of Jaya and
Vijaya. Two large stone Deepamalas (lamp towers) stand near the gateway. The
central Ganesha idol has a left-turned trunk and is covered in sindoor. He is
flanked by Siddhi and Riddhi. The eyes of Lord Vigneshwara are emeralds and his
navel studied with diamond.
