Legend
According to the stories related to temple construction, a
Society was formed by a group of devotees in Delhi in the name of Arsha Dharma
Parishad. In 1975, a plot of land in Janakpuri was allotted by the Delhi
Development Authority (DDA) for the construction of a temple. Due to
astrological reasons, the temple could not be constructed at the allotted site.
Subsequently, the allotment of land was transferred to Mayur Vihar Phase-1, a
site overlooking the banks of Yamuna, by the initiatives of Sree Krishna Mandir
Samajam formed by the devotees in Mayur Vihar Phase-1. The Balalaya was
consecrated on 8th April, 1983 by Prof. Vezhaparambu Parameshwaran
Namboodiripad, with the idol of Lord Guruvayurappan, which was brought from
Kerala. Kanchi Kamakoti Peedatheeswar His Holiness Jagadguru Jayendra
Saraswathi Sankaracharya Swamigal on 2nd October, 1986, laid the foundation
stone for the Garbha Griham (Sanctum Sanctorum). The idol was consecrated in the new temple on 17th May,
1989 with Kumbhabhishekam. The Thantric rights of this temple are vested with
the Puliyannur Illam, in Trippunithara, Ernakulam.
Architecture
Prof. Vezhaparambu Parameshwaran Namboodiripad, an eminent
Temple Architect, designed the present temple. Under his able guidance,
Brahmamangalam Subramanian supervised the construction of the temple. Built on
Kerala style of Architecture, the temple has two main gopurams at eastern and
western sides. The sanctum sanctorum is separated into two chambers and houses
the idols of Lord Krishna and Goddess Bhagavati. Besides the main Krishna
Temple, the complex contains small temples dedicated to Lord Ganapati, Lord
Shiva and Lord Ayyappa and a replica of Sarpa Kavu dedicated to Naga Devatas
