On the banks of river Thamirapani, amid the serenity of the village of Thikkurichi, blessed in abundance with the grace of nature, is the Thikkurichi Mahadevar temple. A very ancient temple and the second one in the sequence of Sivalaya ottam, the shrine is believed to have been renovated during the reign of Marthanada Varma.

The shrine of Mahadevar temple in Thikkurichi is a very ancient one. The shrine is believed to have been built by  the rulers of the erstwhile centuries for the devotees of the area. Lord Shiva is believed to be in meditation in the temple. The temple did not have a Nandi statue for a very long time. Recently the statue of Lord Shiva's mount has been installed in the temple

This temple is part of the famous Shivalaya Ottam.

Architecture

With the flowing waters of river Thamirapani beside it, stands the ancient temple of Thikkurichi Mahadevar. The temple built in granite and stone, is adorned with pillars are wall carvings. The temple does not have a kodimaram like other shrines in the area. There is a newly installed Nandi statue. There are shrines for Vinayaka and Nagas.

Thikkurichi Mahadevar Temple timings :5.00 AM to 11.00 AM and 5.00 PM to 8.00 PM. The temple is a part of the famed Shivalaya ottam conducted during Shivratri. It is the second temple in the run sequence.
