Legend
Tarapith is regarded as one of the 51 Shakti Peeths of
India. When Lord Vishnu used his Chakra to mutilate the corpse of Sati from the
arms of Lord Shiva to help Him gain back his sanity and peace the pieces of
Sati's body spread mostly across India and a few in Sri Lanka, Pakistan and
Bangladesh respectively. It is said that the third-eye of the Sati fell in this
place and thus it is called Tara pith. According to the legends, when Lord
Shiva was burning after consuming all the poison evolved from the
Samudramanthan, it was Devi Durga who took the form of Maa Tara and breastfeed
the Lord to heal him from the inflammation of the poison.
This temple is part of the famous Shaktipeetha Darshan Yatra
of West Bengal.

important places of Tantra sadhana that was enriched to its best during the
lifetime of Sadhok Bamakhepa Dev. For over centuries, the tradition of
worshipping the Goddess in the Tantric mode is carried on. Hindus are very fond
of their Goddess Tara and they often visit Her, whenever they come across with
a tough time in their lives. Mostly they pray to the deity and opt for the
