Legend

Srimath Anantheshwar Temple , locally known as Manjula-kshethram, is very ancient and a descriptive account of the temple is found in 'Manjula Maahatmya' of Sahyaadrikaanda of Skanda Purana. Saint Viroopaksha of Gouda Saraswath community is believed to have spent his last years here before attaining Moksha. Many centuries later, Ranga Sharma, another Gouda Saraswath, spotted the swayambhoo idol of Lord Anantheswara in Shankamaala woods. He installed this along with idol of Lord Sesha (serpent god), which he had brought along with him from Goa and Lord Bhadra Narasimha is considered presiding deity. So there are three deities in the sreekovil - Sree Anantheswara in linga form along with Lord Shesha, Lord Subrahmanya and Lord Narasimha.

Architecture

The sreekovil is squarish and faces Lakshadweep sea. The sopanam has direct steps. There is no namaskara mandapam. The temple was last renovated in 1799 - 1804 AD after it was demolished by a ruler.
