According to the legends, it is at this place that Lord Vishnu took the Matsya avatar and a temple was built at this place for Lord Vishnu in the Matysa avatar.

Architecture

The temple was built according to the Dravidian style of architecture. The internal sanctum sanctorum of this temple houses an image of Matsya form of Lord Vishnu. The temple walls are sculpted with different images of gods and goddesses. The idol in this temple is facing towards west and sun rays fall on the Lord during the Sunset (6.00 pm to 6.15 pm). Another interesting fact is that the sun rays fall at the feet on the first day, on the chest on the second day and on forehead on the third day.
