Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Devasthanam Vemulawada
Located at Vemulawada in Karimnagar district, Sri Raja
Rajeshwara Swamy Temple is a famous and ancient temple in Telangana dedicated
to Lord Shiva. The temple is also known as Dakshina Kasi. The temple is also
known as Hari Hara Kshetram because the main temple complex houses two Vaisnava
Temples i.e., Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple & Sri Seetharama Chandra
Swamy Temple.

Legend
According to the legends, once King Sri Raja Raja Narendra
came to this place to hunt wild animals. However, accidentally he killed a
Brahmin boy who was drinking water from a pond. After that incident, the King
got an incurable disease. Sadden by this, he left the kingdom and went on a
pilgrimage to many holy places. After that he returned back to this place. One day the King drank the Holy water
from the Dharmagundam and slept the night praying to Lord Sri Raja Rajeshwara
Swamy. At night Lord Shiva appeared in King's dreams and asked him to take out
the Lingam from Dharmagundam and place it in the temple. The King took out the
Lingam and cleaned it with Dharmagundam water. The King built a temple on the
hill. Thereafter his incurable disease also got cured.
Architecture
There are three mandapas on the Dharmagundam and the statue
of Lord Shiva resides in the middle. The Lord is seen in a meditation posture
with five Lingams surrounding the Holy Tank. The idol of Raja Rajeshwara Swami is adorned by the idol of Sri Raja Rajeswari
Devi on the right side and to the left is the idol of Sri Laxmi Sahitha Siddi
Vinayaka.There are many evidences of inscriptions on stone to provide
information of historical, political, religious, cultural and greatness of this
holy place.

Temple Rituals
Before proceeding to the Darshan, devotees have to take bath
in a holy tank called 'Dharma Gundam'. It is believed that the water in the
holy tank have medicinal properties.
Special Rituals
Special poojas and darshans are held during the
Mahasivaratri. Mahalingarchana is performed by about hundred archakas. At
midnight Ekadasa Rudrabhishekham is performed to the deity.
