Legend

Soumyanatha Swamy Temple is a famous Vishnu temple situated at Nandalur, Andhra Pradesh.  The temple was built in 11th Century and underwent renovations during this times of Pandyas, Kakatiyas and Vijayanagar dynasties. The temple houses the shrines of Prayoga Naraimha Swamy, Vinayaka Swamy, Anjaneya Swamy.

 Architecture

Built with red-stone, Sri Soumyanatha Swamy temple has many inscriptions written on the temple walls in Tamil language. The temple has four Raja Gopurams, which stands in four directions. Gali Gopuram was built by Someswara III in 12th Century. South facing Gopuram was built during Vijayanagara period. Another major attraction of the temple is the 108 pillars having lions head at the bottom instead of having them at the top. There are inscriptions on pillars. There is also a small pond in the temple premises.  A huge fish is varved on the ceiling of the temple.

Culture

The rich cultural heritage of the city is on a populous display in Kadapa during its festival season. Sankranthi, the celebration of the first harvest in the state of Andhra finds a special place in the heart of the entire population of the city. In addition, Diwali, Eid, and Christmas are also celebrated on an appreciable scale. Kite flying is an important activity during Sankranthi. The locals love their spicy South Indian cuisine and a myriad of hotels serves multi cuisine dishes.

There are small tiffin centers near the temple area. Hampi family restaurant Rajampet is 10 kms away from temple.Hotel Anjana Grand-rajampet (10 kms away from temple area). There is no accommodation with in the radius of 5kms. The temple is located in a village.
