Situated at Satyavolu Village, Andhra Pradesh, Sri Ramalingswara Temple is famous temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the ancient Shiva shrines in Andhra Pradesh. The temple was established by King Janamejaya, the son-in-law of Pandavas and later a temple was built by the Badami Chalukyas of Chola dynasty during 6th - 7th Century AD. Currently, this temple is under the protection of Archaeological Survey of India.

Legend

According to the legends, to get rid of Sarpa Dosha King Janamejaya, Son of Parikshit and Great Grand Son of Pandava King Arjuna, installed the idol of this temple.

Architecture

The temple showcases the magnificent architectures of the Chalukyas. The niches of the sanctum sanctorum include the idol of Ishvara, the Lingodbhava murti and the Durgadevi idols. In the center of the sanctum sanctorum is the Shiva Lingam form of Ramalingeswara. The temple is very tall. The temple has a large mandapam and sanctum. There is four arms in the south of the temple. There is a rocky stone on the sphere of space. There are four pillars in the Mandavata Chetta Mandap. There are sculptures on them. There is a statue of Nataraja in the center of the temple. There are six temples in the temple premises of Satyavolam Ramalingeswara temple. All of them are Shiva temples. The largest of these temples is the Bhima Lingeswara Swamy Temple. Its mouth is eastward.
