Navagraha Temple Guwahati
Located on the top of Chitrasal Hill (or Navagraha Hill), in
Guwahati, Assam, Navagraha Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Navagraha - the nine (nava) major celestial
bodies of Hindu astronomy. They are Surya (Sun), Chandra (Moon), Mangala
(Mars), Budha (Mercury), Brihaspati (Jupiter), Shukra (Venus), Shani (Saturn),
Rahu (North Lunar Node) and Ketu (South Lunar Node). Here, the nine Celestial
bodies are worshipped in the form of nine Shivalingams, each covered with a
colored garment symbolic of each of the celestial bodies, with a Shivaligam in
the centre symbolising the Sun.

The Ahom King Rajeswar Singha built the Navagraha Temple in
the 18th century and dedicated it to the 9 Grahas.
Architecture
The Navagraha Temple in Guwahati was built in 1752 A,D. by
the Ahom King Rajeswar Singha in a beehive shaped architecture. The red colored
dome shaped temple has nine lingas inside the sanctum santorum. The middle one
is the Surya and the surrounding eight lingas are the other grahas.

During the era of the Kamrupa Kings, the temples were mostly built. Kamakshya
Devi Temple, Umananda Temple, Nabagraha Temple, Vasistha Temple and Ashram,
Bhuvaneswari Temple, Janardana Temple etc are some of the worth mentioning
century-old Hindu shrines, enriched with legends, history, and architecture.

Temple Rituals
At Navagraha Temple the Nine Grahas are worshipped in
consecrated form of Shiva Lingas. All the Lingas are gorgeously dressed with
new clothes and they are worshipped regularly with fruits, sweets, dhupa and
oil lamps.
