Mahabhairav Temple Tezpur
Located at a hillock on the northern part of Tezpur, Assam,
Mahabhairav Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed
that the temple has been established by King Bana in the pre- historical times.
The temple is now managed by the Government through a managing committee headed
by the District Deputy Commissioner.

Legend
According to the legends, King Banasura built this temple to
worship Lord Shiva. It is said that the Shiva linga of this temple is made of
living stone which grows over slowly by the years.
Architecture
The centuries old temple had been destroyed and rebuilt
several times. Originally, the temple was built in some time within the 8th and
10th century by a hermit called Bana. Later on, with the passage of time, the
temple also faced decadence
