Maa Pitambara Temple also known as Bagalamukhi Devi Temple is a famous temple located in Amleshwar (south of Raipur) town, approx 25 km from Durg, Chhattisgarh, dedicated to Mahavidya Goddess Bagalamukhi. Bagalamukhi is one of the ten mahavidyas (great wisdom goddesses) in Hinduism. The temple was established by Param Pujaya Shri Shri Pitambara Pithadhishwar Yogiraj Youdhishthir Ji Maharaj.

Legend

According to the legends, when a mighty storm erupted over the earth which threatened to destroy the creatures on the earth, all Gods assembled in Saurashtra to discuss the solution. They prayed to Goddess Bagalamukhi, who appeared from Haridra Lake and she calmed down the destructive storm. Since then, she was worshipped as an incarnation of Goddess Parvati.

Goddess Bagalamukhi has golden complexion and she is always seen in a yellow dress. The Goddess sits on a golden throne which lies in the midst of an ocean of nectar which is full of yellow lotuses and her head is adorned with a crescent moon.
