Located in Keelapatla Village, Andhra Pradesh, Konetirayala Swamy Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Here, Lord Vishnu or Lord Venkateshwara is called as Konetirayadu. The temple was constructed by the Regents of Pallava Kings in the 9th and 10th centuries. The temple is said to be as old as the Tirupathi Temple and the idol look similar to the one at Tirumala.

Legend

According to the legends, Saint Kashyapa advised Saint Brughu to establish the idols of lord venkateshwara swamy in 7 different places to get rid of the sin and to seek forgiveness for kicking on Lord Vishnu's chest. As per the advise, Saint Brughu established the idols in 7 different place; however, he hid all these places with his magical powers that only the devotees can view. When Lord Venkateshwara made Tirumala hills as his abode, Saint Brughu removed the magical powers from the 7 places and the common people came to know about these idols. Later, many Kings came forward to build temples to the Lord Venkateshwara at these places.

Architecture

The temple is constructed based on Dravidian style of architecture. The temple has pyramid shaped towers and are constructed with sandstone, soapstone or granite. The temple has four gateway towers and gopuram on its four sides. The base of the eastern tower, the Rajagopuram is made of granite. In the sanctum of the temple, the idol of Lord Konetirayadu is in standing posture with his "Kati Varada Hastas", natural "Sanlchu Chakras" and with the impressions of Sridevi and Bhudevi, on the chest.
