Sri Ranganatha Swami Perumal Temple is an 600 Year old beautiful temple, situated in Kalkunte, a place in between Bangalore and Malur in Kolar District, 35 Km from Bangalore.

Legend 

The Sthala Puranams says that Srinivasa temple existed long back and the main idol disfigured ( Binnam) and for long time there was no idol. Legend goes that 300 years ago, an ardent devotee of the Lord dreamt that a swayambu Murthy of Lord Ranganatha will be found under a Ant-hill at Vakalere Lake in Kolar district. The elders of the village reached the spot  and behold they found the idol of Lord which they brought to Kalkunte and built a small temple and started doing Pooja.

 Architecture

The Temple is built Vijayanagara style of architecture . This temple has a Rajagopuram, Prakaram. The rear side of the complex has a small stage for religious discourse and other functions. At the entrance, on either side, Dashavatharam (the 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu) is carved beautifully on the wall.

Culture 

The main occupation of the Village was stitching the Thaiyal Ellai (As the people used to partake food in leaves stitched together). Slowly due to grace of Lord Ranganatha the standard of people started rising up and the villagers progressed in every front.

Though there is no specific dress code, traditional wear is preferred on festival days.

Special Rituals 

Utsavams is conducted on all special days and festival days round the year. The Karthika masa pooja for 30days in the night and the dhanurmaasa Pooja for 30days during early morning is being regularly observed every year. This deity is also known as Prasaada Priya Ranganaatha

Temple Rituals 

Pooja and Abisheka is offered to Lord Vishnu daily.
