Jangleshwar Mahadev Mandir, Mumbai
Situated at the heart of the Mumbai city, Jangleshwar
Mahadev Mandir is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is assumed that the
temple is at least 150 year old. This temple was very famous among the Sadhus
and 5-6 sadhus used to live in this temple.

Legend
According to the legends, centuries ago many sadhus lived in
the place where the temple is situated. The place used to be a dense forest.
One day while clearing the jungle, one of the sadhus discovered the idol. The
idol is considered to be self manifested. The Sadhus established a temple there
and started worshipping the idol. According to another legend, one day a snake
came to the temple and sat beside the idol. From that day onwards, the snake
used to sit regularly beside the linga and made that as its permanent abode.

The structural architecture of Jangleshwar Mahadev Mandir
was in the form of shiv linga. The current structure of the temple was built in
1994.

The temple is open from 6:00 AM till 10:00 PM and on Mondays
till 12:00 mid night.

Famous Festival
Feb/March - Mahashivratri - Every year on the day of
Shivratri, more than 2.5 lakhs people visit the temple to pray and conduct
upvas. A big pandal is made to accommodate people. Water sarbat are served to
the devotees.
Temple Rituals
Every day Aarati and Abhishek is performed at temple at 7:00
AM and at 7:30 PM.
Every Monday bhajans are conducted in the temple.
Special Rituals
In Jangleshwar Mahadev Mandir, various kinds of poojas like
homa for shanti, Maha chandi Yanja, pancha kunda yanja are performed. During the
Shravan month, the temple conduct bhajan keertan everyday. Ramayan is read at
temple during the shravan month and Gujariti and Jain communities are given
special slots for conducting poojas.
