Gnana Saraswati Temple, Basar
Gnana Saraswati Temple is a temple dedicated to Goddess
Saraswati located on the banks of Godavar River at Basar, Telangana. It is one
of the two famous Saraswati temples in India, the other being in Jammu &
Kashmir. Besides the idol of Saraswati there is also an idol of Goddess
Lakshmi. The temple has a separate shrine for Goddess Kali, which is located
very near to the main temple. As the temple has the presence of Goddess Saraswati,
Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Mahakali, the temple is called as Divine Trinity.

Legend
According to the legends, after the Kurukshetra war, Sage
Vyas and his disciples decided to settle down in a cool and serene atmosphere.
Sage Vyas came to Dandaka forest and selected the region as his abode. Sage
Vyas spent most of his time in prayers, therefore, the place came to known as
"Vasars" and later it was turned into Basara.
Architecture
Gnana Saraswati Temple is built in South Indian style of
architecture. The structural designs of Gnana Saraswati Temple dates back to
the Chalukya period. The unique feature of the temple is that there are no
carvings. The presiding deity is in a seated position with a Veena in hand and
bedecked with turmeric.
