Chettikulangara Devi Temple
Located at Chettikulangara in Mavelikkara taluk of
Alappuzha, Kerala, Chettikulangara Sree Bhagavathi temple is one of the most
famous temples in Kerala. One of the speciality of the temple is that here
deity appears as Maha Saraswathi in the morning, as Maha Lakshmi at noon and
Sri Durga or Bhadrakali in the evening.

Legend
According to the legends, once some local chieftains went to
witness the annual festivities at the Koypallikarazhma Bhagavathi temple
situated a few kilometers from Chettikulangara. They were humiliated and
ridiculed by the Koypallikarazhma temple authorities. Due to the humiliation,
and out of retribution, people decided to construct a Bhagavathi temple at
Chettikulangara. They went to Kodungallur, and performed Bhajan for 12 days to
please the Goddess. One day Devi came in their dreams and told that she would
soon come to Chettikulangara. The next day, the people happily returned to
Chettikulangara with a sacred sword given by the Velichappadu of Kodungallur
temple, and started civil works of the temple. After that many mysterious
incidents happened to the people of Chettikulangara, and they felt that the
Devi had reached Chettikulangara. They approached famous astrologers and it was
confirmed that the Bhagavathi had reached Chettikulangara.
Architecture
The temple is built according to the Kerala style of
architecture. Apart from the main shrine, there are several smaller shrines
dedicated to different god and goddesses.

Alappuzha is described as the one of the places known as the
"Venice of the East". It is a city with picturesque canals,
