Ambaji temple, Ambaji Mata Devasthan
Located in the Banaskantha district of Gujarat, is the
Ambaji Mata temple, one of the reverted Shakthipeethas where Sati Devi's heart
is believed to have fallen. The original impression of Ambaji mata is on Gabbar
hilltop, 5 kms away and can be reached by stairs or rope way. The temple at the
Gabbar hills has been mentioned in epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata, though
the new temple was built much later. The temple is originally believed to be
built by Nagar Brahmins.

Legend
When Lord Shiva's wrath at the death of his wife Sati
manifested as the Tandava which would destroy the Universe, Lord Vishnu's
Sudarshan chakra cut her corpse into pieces which scattered around the
subcontinent. It is here, at Ambaji temple in Gabbar hill the heart of the Devi
is believed to have fallen. The new bigger temple, was built in the land below
the hill to celebrate the divinity of the Goddess.
Architecture
The architecture of Ambaji temple is very artistic and
elaborate. The temple is constructed in white marble with sprinkles of gold and
carved pillars highlighting its serenity. A Kalash shines at 103 feet height on
the top of the temple, weighing more than 3 three tones, plated with pure gold
and attached with the holy flag.There is no idol of goddess and the holy
"Shree Visa Yantra" is worshiped as the main deity. The original
impression of Ambaji is on Gabbar hill and can be reached by stairs or rope
way.
Culture
The district lies at the Gujarat Rajasthan border, with its
largest city being Palanpur. The district is famous for the Ambaji temple and
the Balaram temple which sees many tourists and devotees coming here.

The temple is open from 7.00 AM to 11.30 AM, 12.30 PM to
4.30 PM and 6.30 PM to 9.00 PM.
Shri Arasuri Ambaji Mata Devsthan Trust has developed a
parikrama way circulating the Gabbar hill. The images of the 51 Shaktipeeth
temples are constructed on this path. The temples are made similar to their
original structure. One can see all 51 Shaktipeethas by doing Parikrama of
Gabbar hill.

The priests perform regular puja and rituals like aarti,
rajbhog etc.
Special Rituals
The yantra is placed in such a way that it is not visible to
the naked eye. The worship of this Visa Shree Yantra is done only after tying a
bandage on the eyes.
