The pata is used to make chandan or sandalwood paste for pooja or to apply to one’s skin. The pata is small enough to facilitate easy storage. This pata is made of stone and is fragile. It needs to be handled with care.

To use, one simply has to take the sandalwood stick and rub it against this stone while adding a little bit of water from time to time. The resulting paste can be applied to the skin.
