Legend
According to the legends, once Silada Maharshi's son Parvatha performed
penance. Pleased with Parvatha's devotion, Lord Shiva appeared before
him. Parvatha asked Lord Shiva to live on his body and Shiva blessed
Parvatha. Parvatha took the shape of big Hill Sriparvatha and Shiva
lived on its top as Mallikarjuna Swamy. According to another legend,
Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati visited this place to pacify Lord
Kartikeya, after Kartikeya left to live a solitary life. On seeing his
parents, Lord Kartikeya tried to move to another place. However, on the
request of the Devas, he stayed close by. The place where Lord Shiva and
Parvati stayed came to be known as Shrishailam.
This Temple is one of the Maha Shakipeethas and is a part of famous Shaktipeethas, 12 Jyotirlinga Darsan Yatra.

Bhramaramba Devi : Maha Shaktipeeth
Near
the Mallikarjuna sanctum, at a higher level, is the temple for
Bhramaramba devi. She is in the form of Mahalakshmi. It is considered
as one of the eighteen Maha Shathipeethas and the neck of Sati devi is
believed to have fallen here. Bhramaramba means the Mother of bees.
Arunaasura, a demon had received a boon that he will not be killed by
