Legend
According to the legends, once upon a time, a woman was
chopping grass with her son at this place, when she hit a stone. Blood started
oozing out from the stone she had hit. Seeing blood coming from the stone, the
woman cried out "Sureya" to her son. After that incident the place
was named Sureya, which gradually became Surya. According to another legend, it
is believed to be the original place where lord Sadashiva Rudra appeared and
blessed his devotees.
Architecture
There is a kalyani or a stepped well outside the temple. This
well is covered by green vegetation on all sides. A small paved path leads to
the well. It has deep blue water and is 55 feet deep. There are two temples or
significant places of worship in the temple. The main Shiva Linga stays between
the woods through the canopy of lush green trees with no roof or walls to stop
the rains and winds. The place is called as harike bana. The second temple is
where all the pooja takes place.
