Once when Renuka disobeyed the Muni, the muni ordered his sons to kill her. The
four son who disobeyed Muni’s order where burned to ashes. Parashurama obeyed
his father’s order and killed his mother and the woman who gave shelter to
her. Pleased with Parashurama, Jamadugni Muni granted a boon to his son.
Parashurama asked Jamadugni Muni to give life to his family members and the
other woman. However, while joining the bodies with the heads, the heads of the
two women got interchanged. The muni accepted the woman with Renuka's body. The
other lady with Renuka's head came to be known as Yellamma the Universal
Mother. Thus both the ladies were two different forms of the same being.
