Situated at Skandagiri hill, Secunderabad in Telangana, Skandagiri Subrahmanyaswamy Temple also as Skandagiri Murugan Temple is a famous temple dedicated to Lord Subramanya Swamy. The idol was installed by Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Maha Swamy. The temple also houses other small shrines that includes Sundara Vinayagar Sannidhi, Sri Ekambareswarar and Sri Kamakshi Amman Sannidhi, Sri Jaya Durga Sannidhi, Sri Varadaraja Swamy Sannidhi, Sri Dakshinamoorthy, Sri Lakshmi and Sri Saraswathi.

Legend

According to the legends, Shri N Rajamani, an ardent devotee of Lord Subramanya Swamy volunteered to make the idols for Sri Subrahmanya Swamy and His Consorts and also for Sri Sundara Vinayaka Moorthy. Lord appeared in the devotee’s dream and asked him to follow a salt less diet till the installation of the idols at the proposed temple. Even after receiving the idols, the search for the location for the temple continued. Later, in the year 1961, a committee named Sri Subrahmanya Swamy Aadi Krithigai Laksharchana Committee was formed with the initiative of Sri R Rajagopala Iyer and Sri P Nataraja Iyer and they decided to build a Temple for Sri Subrahmanyaswamy.

Architecture

The temple was built according to the Chola style of construction. TheRajagopuram of the temple was built in Chola style.The temple walls are sculpted with idols of gods and goddesses.
