Sri Dasanjaneya Swamy Temple is a famous temple situated at Machavaram, in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh. The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and is popularly called as The Lord of the Road.

Legend

According to the legends, the great Saint Vyasatheerthulu toured along with his disciples on foot. Once while travelling, they paused for a while at Indra Kiladri to realx. It is believed that Lord Hanuman incarnated before them in the form of a Varana. Vyasatheerthulu along with his disciples got up and followed him. They traveled a lot following Lord Hanuman and reached Machavaram. Lord Hanuman asked the Saint to erect a temple at that location along with a distinctive Shankh and Chakra. As per Lord Hanuman's instructions, Saint Vyasatheerthulu began the construction of the temple.

Architecture

The idol of Sri Dasa Anjaneya is about two to three feet tall and an ardha shila in nature. Sri Dasa Anjaneya is seen here as a Dasa (student), sitting on His knees in front of Sri Rama. While his both the hands are seen folded with the palms joint in anjali offering pranams to His Lord. His bright kundalam is big in size and dazzling.

Culture

The culture of Krishna district is mostly traditional in rural places and moderately modern in Vijayawada. It is also famous as the birthplace for Indian classical dance named kuchipudi and the culture with the dialect of Telugu spoken in Krishna is widely considered to be the standard form of Telugu.
