Sri Bhuvaneswari Sametha Sri Mulasthaneswara Swamy Vari Devastanam, Sri Mulasthaneswara Swamy Temple
Located in the heart of the Nellore city, Andhra Pradesh, Sri Mulasthaneswara Swamy temple also famous as Mulapet Shivalayam is a famous temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is said to be 1400 years old.

Legend
According to the temple legends, once there lived a person
named Mukanti Reddy, who used to graze cattle in the forest. One day Mukanti
noticed that one of his cow is not yielding milk and instructed the cowherd to
keep an eye on that particular cow to find out why it is not giving milk.
Cowherd noticed that cow moved away from the others and emptying it's milk on
an ant-hill. Seeing this, he raised his axe to beat the cow; however, the axe
hit the rock in the ant-hill from where the blood starts oozing out. Seeing this, he ran to his master and told
about the incident. That very night, Mukanti had a dream which instructed him
to build a temple at the ant-hill for Lord Shiva. Later, Mukanti build a temple
at this place and the place came to known as Mulasthana Ishwara.
Architecture
The temple tower is colorful and has images of gods and
goddesses done in stucco work. A large sculpted image of Lord Shiva, in a
posture of giving away blessings to the visiting devotees is placed on a roof
top of four pillared mandapam (hall) which is in front of the courtyard of the
temple tower. There is a huge Ganesha
idol in the temple.
Culture
The culture of Nellore is very vibrant and unique. The
linguists from the city played a pivotal role in the evolution of Telugu as a
language. The ancient dance forms of Annamayya, Kuchipudi and Tyagaraja are
still practiced in the city.
