Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir
Situated on the banks of Sarayu river is the erstwhile
capital of Kosla Kingdom, Ayodhya. It is regarded as one of the most sacred
places in the country owing to the belief that it was here that Lord Ram was
born. It is believed that King Vikramaditya discovered the place and built a
temple celebrating the divinity of Lord Ram. This structure was destroyed by
Mughal emperor Babur and a mosque erected in its place. Since years the area
has been a site of contention between the Hindus and Muslims.
It has come under attacks and disputes. The current temple here is a
make shift tent which holds the idol of Ram. The cases regarding the site are still
pending in court.

Legend
Lord Ram is considered as the seventh incarnation of Lord
Vishnu. Along with Krishna, they form the most popular avatars of Vishnu. The
story of his birth and life are narrated in the epic of Ramayana. It is
believed that it is in Ayodhya that Ram was born as the eldest son of King
Dasaratha and Kausalya. After his exile and eventual killing of Ravana, Ram
returned back to Ayodhya to rule with happiness and peace, the era called Rama
Rajya.
This temple is part of famous Saptapuri Yatra.
Architecture
The temples is among the ruins of the earlier structures
that existed in the place. It is more of a make-shift arrangement. The shrine
holds the idol of Lord Ram, as Ram Lalla. There are steel rods cordoning off
the area.
Culture
Ayodhya situated on the banks of Sarayu, is one of the
Saptapuri, the seven sacred spots of India. Images of not only Hinduism, but
also religions like Buddhism, Jainism and Islam can be seen in the city.

Summers - 7.30 AM to 11.30 AM and 4.30 PM to 9.30 PM
Winters - 9 AM to 11 AM and 4 PM to 9 PM
Due to the ongoing dispute, security is very stringent in
the area. Devotees should be ready for long and strict security checks. They
are not allowed to carry any gadgets, watches, pens, mobiles, car keys, bags
etc inside the temple.

April - Ram Navami
November - Diwali
* Supreme court has banned any festival celebrations in the
temple premise though devotees visit the shrine in large numbers during the
auspicious days of Ram Navami & Diwali.
Temple Rituals
The chief priest appointed by the court, is authorised to
offer daily prayers at the disputed site
Special Rituals
No special prayers or religious activity is permitted in the
temple.
