Punyagiri Temple, Shiva Temple
Located about 25 km from Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, Punyagiri temple is a famous and one of the oldest temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is located in the hills of Punyagiri in the Eastern Ghats. Here, Lord Shiva is called as Uma Kotilingeswara Swamy. The temple is famous for ‘Asthikala Nimarjanam’.

Legend
According to the legends, Pandavas stayed here in this
forest during their exile period. It is said that Chinaputturdara falls which
is located on the right side of hills emerges from the base of Siva Linga. The
Linga in the temple is bathed by the underground perennial flow. Devotees used
to take a bath at these falls before Lord Siva Darshan inside the temple as it
is believed that by doing so they will be relieved from their sins.
Architecture
The temple flooring is made of rock stone. The gopuram of
the temple is made of sand stone and the outer walls of the temple mandapa is
designed with sculptures of gods and goddesses. The most prominent feature of
the temple is that the lingam enshrined in the temple is bathed by an
underground water source.
