Legend
Srila Prabhupada was born Abhay Charan De on September 1,
1896 to a pious Hindu family in Calcutta. As a youth growing up in
British-controlled India, Abhay became involved with Mahatma Gandhi’s civil
disobedience movement to secure independence for his nation. It was, however, a
1922 meeting with a prominent scholar and religious leader, Srila
Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati, which proved most influential on Abhay’s future
calling. Srila Bhaktisiddhanta was a leader in the Gaudiya Vaishnava
denomination, a monotheistic tradition within the broad Hindu culture, and
asked Abhay to bring the teachings of Lord Krishna to the English-speaking
world. Abhay became a disciple of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta in 1933, and resolved
to carry out his mentor’s request. Abhay, later known by the honorific A.C.
Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, spent the next 32 years preparing for his
journey west.
Architecture
Sri Sri Radha Madhav temple is a stunning architecture with
legions of rooms for the temple priests and a garden and guest house towards
the backyard. The temple has a large hall for the devotees to pray which is
presumed to be the largest in any North Indian temple and it is here that the
Krishna Devotees dance to the hymns of Krishna.
Culture
Chandigarh was designed as well as built by a French
architect Le Corbusier during the 1950’s.
After independence, it is the first city which was designed in a modern
style on a single grid. The architecture
of Chandigarh is an example of art and culture.
When it comes to creativity, Le Corbusier has tried his best to
introduce new ideas that have really added a new charm to its design. If you
want to explore the real architecture, you can have a look at some of the old
monuments and you will surely be surprised with the kind of art that is done on
them. People from different countries
come to explore this modern city which is known for its temples, mosques,
shrines, historical places, gardens and lots more.
