Danteshwari Temple
Dedicated to Goddess Danteshwari, Danteshwari Temple is one of the 52 Shakti Peethas situated in Dantewada, a town situated 80 km from Jagdalpur Tehsil, Chhattisgarh. The temple is built in the 14th century. The Dantewada town is named after the Goddess Danteshwari, the presiding deity of the earlier Kakatiya rulers.

Legend
According to the legends, when Daksha insulted Lord Shiva,
Goddess Sati committed self-immolation in the fire pit of yagna kund. Lord
Shiva destroyed the Yaga and started to do Taandav. Lord Shiva carried the body
of Sati in his hands and started travelling. Lord Vishnu cut the dead body of
Goddess Sati with his Sudarshan and parts of the body were scattered to
fifty-two different places and later consecrated as Shakti Pithas. It is
believed that a tooth of Sati had fallen at Dantewada and Danteshwari Shakti
Peetha was established.
Architecture
Danteshwari Temple is a vast temple complex standing as a
monument to centuries of history and tradition. The idol of Goddess Danteshwari
is chiseled out of black stone. The temple is divided into four parts such as
Garbh Griha, Maha Mandap, Mukhya Mandap and Sabha Mandap. Garbha Griha and Maha
Mandap were constructed with stone pieces. There is a Garuda Pillar in front of
the entrance of the temple. The temple itself is located in a spacious
courtyard surrounded by massive walls. The shikhara is adorned with sculptural
finery.
Culture
The culture of Chhattisgarh is a blend of literature,
performing arts and crafts which is derived and nourished from daily life and
observation of facts of people. Most of their decorative or the design pattern
which is used in their art work is from their own religion, mythology, social
and political events, nature and folklore. The other traditional crafts of the
people include painting, woodcarving, bell metal craft, bamboo ware and tribal
jewellery.The people of Chhattisgarh have an in-depth knowledge deeply rooted
in areas like sociological and historical movements of the region.
