Chamunda Mata Temple, Chotila
In the small village of Chotila is situated the holy shrine
of Chamunda mata. As with most of Chamunda devi shrines, this temple of Chotila
is on top of a hill too. The temple is believed to have build by a devotee in
whose dream Devi appeared. The temple has been renovated and the darshan hall
has been extended. The new steps and corrugated sheets above the steps have
been donated by the Ambani brothers. Chamunda Mataji is the Kuldevi (family
Goddess) of many Hindus. Approximately 155 years ago, Mahant Shri Gosai
Gulabgiri Harigiri Bapu was the temple priest and his family members are taking
care of shrine and providing services to the visiting devotees till date.

Legend
The legend states that the Goddess appeared in the dreams of
her devotee told that she was under the earth on Chotilo hill. He was
instructed to dig in a certain spot which he followed, and found the beautiful
idol of Chamunda Maa. At that spot the temple was constructed and the Goddess
worshipped.
Architecture
The series of steps lead to the top the mountain where the
temple is located. The temple has a steep conical shikara or roof, painted in
white and red, with the red flag flying atop its dome. The sanctum houses the
idol of Chamunda Mata adorned with flowers and jewellery.
Culture
Chotila is essentially known for the Chamunda Mata temle. It
is also the birthplace of famous Gujarati poet Zaverchand Meghani

At the entrance to Chotilo Hill there is a Mandir where
houses a replica of deity above, where you can go and pray if you are not able

The priests perform aarti and pujas to the deity
Special Rituals
The aarti is done withoiut chants and only with the beating
of drums.
The aarti starts of with dhoop being offered to Maa and then
with lamps. Once the evening aarti is done, no one is allowed is to remain in
the temple premises.
