The name of the city Bela (at present called as Bela Pratapgarh or Pratapgarh) is derived from Maa Belha Devi, the city's patron Goddess. Located on the bank of Sai river, the temple is an epitome of age old tradition of Shakti worship in northern India. The temple was constructed by the Raja Pratap Bhahadur Singh of Awadh during the period 1811-15.
