Legend
According to the legends, Lord Vishnu was worshiped at the
place where Ananta Vasudeva Temple stands at present. The new temple was built
in the 13th century by Queen Chandrika of Eastern Ganga dynasty. The shrine was
named as Anata Vasudeva.
Architecture
The architecture of the Ananta Vasudeva Temple strikingly
differs from the other nearby temples. The structure of the main edifice is
resting on a plane stone platform and upon that, the three chambers namely
Jagamohana, Natamandira and Bhogamandapa are erected. The temple exteriors and
interiors are crafted with stone models of Hindu deities and of women. It is
said that most women idols engraved on the temple walls for ornamentation lack
originality. Still, the temple, even today is visited for its enticing art and
surroundings.
