A Himalayan homage

Legend

The Pandavas after the war of Kurukshetra, went in search of Shiva to ask pardon for the sins of fratricide. Shiva, avoided them, took disguise of a bull and went into hiding in Guptakashi. The Pandavas chased him there. Shiva's body in the form of bull materialised at five different spots with Lord's hump appearing in Kedarnath, the arms in Tunganath, the nabhi (navel) in Madhyamaheshwar, the face at Rudranath and the tresses surfacing at Kalpeshwar. The Pandavas built temples at these five places in honour of the Lord. Over the years, visiting these temples developed into the Panch Kedar circuit, one of the toughest pilgrimages to the five shrines of Lord Shiva.
