Temple

The eleventh temple in the Sivalaya ottam circuit is the Thiruppanricode Mahadevar Temple. Here, the Lord is worshipped as Bhakta valsala swamy. The ancient shrine was renovated in 880 AD by Sreemoolam Thirunal. It was attacked during the 1680 AD by the Mughal army. It is believed that the order to destroy the Shivalingam of this shrine charged up the  Venad forces who then defeated the Mughals.

Legend

The legend of the deity here revolves around the Varaha avatar of Lord Vishnu. After the annihilation of the demon Hiryankasha, for which he took incarnation, the Varaha or the boar, ran amok destroying the earth. His horns were broken by Lord Shiva after which it turned back as Lord Vishnu. It is this form of Shiva helped Vishnu turn back to him original self, that is worshipped at the temple of Thiruppanricode.

This temple is part of the famous Shivalaya Ottam.

Architecture

Thiruppanricode Mahadevar Temple is constructed  in the traditional Kerala architectural style. The temple is built of stone with tiled roofs. There is a temple bell and a Kodimaram at its entrance. The lingam is said to bear the marks of the attack on the shrine by the Mughals.

Thiruppanricode Mahadevar Temple timings :5.00 AM to 11.00 AM and 5.00 PM to 8.00 PM. The temple is a part of the famed Shivalaya ottam conducted during Shivratri. It is the eleventh temple in the run sequence.

Darsan Dresscode

Devotees are advised to wear clean and traditional clothing. Western attire are not allowed in the temples of Tamil Nadu
