Andhra Pradesh, East Godavari, Amaravathi
Mallavaram Subramanya Swamy Temple is a famous temple dedicated to Lord Subramanya. Sarpa Dosha Pooja is very popular in this temple. The temple was built in 1962.
Legend
According to the legends, Lord kumaraswamy is also called as Sri Subrahmanyeswara and prayed in Sarpa Roopa (As cobra). Once a cobra appeared in the temple of lord Kukkuteswara of Pithapuram, and stayed there without touching anything or go away anywhere in spite of the provocations by the visitors about a week after Subrahmanya Shashti. The snake used to take bath in nearby farm canals and stay on the same place despite the crowd of devotees. Later, elders of the village started constructing a temple. However, next day the snake died at the same place and was buried at the same place after consulting Pandits and senior priests. Later the sanctum sanctorum (Garbhalayam) was constructed on that burial place. An idol of Lord Subrahmanya swamy in Sarpa Roopa (As Cobra) was placed in the sanctum sanatorium along with Siva lingam and Ammavaru.
