Madhur Ganapathi Temple also known as Madur Madanantheswara Siddhi Vinayaka temple is a famous temple located at Kasaragod. The main deity of the temple is Lord Madhanentheswara (Lord Shiva); however, the temple is famous for MahaGanapathi. It is among the one of the most famous six Ganpathi temples of ancients Tulunadu.
Legend
There are several legends surrounding the temples. According to one legend, Bhargava Rama established the deity of Lord Vighneswara and offered prayers. According to the Skanda Purana, as per the suggestion of Vasuki, Dharmagupta, the king of Trigarta Dravida kingdom drew the sketch of Mahaganapathi on a wall on the banks of river Kashmira to ward off the obstacles he came across while performing the Maharudrayaga. He then built a temple around the sketch and established the Linga of Srimadanantheshwara.
Architecture
The temple has a U shape and the main attraction of Madhur Ganapathi Temple is the three tier structure with copper plated roofs and spectacular wooden sculpture. The carvings in the ceilings of Namaskara Mantapa(Prayer hall) characterize historic events of Mahabharata and Ramayana.There is a deep well inside the temple compound.
