Temple

Situated in Karmanghat, Telangana, Karmanghat Hanuman / Anjaneya Temple is one of the oldest and popular temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Here, Lord Hanuman is also known as Dhyana Anjaneya. The temple was built in 12th century AD. Other than the presiding deity, the temple complex also houses the shrines of Lord Rama, Lord Shiva, Goddess Saraswathi, Goddess Durga, Goddess Santoshimata, Lord Venugopala Swamy, and Lord Jagannath.

Legend

According to the legends, once a Kakatiya king went for hunting and he decided to rest under a tree for some time. At that time, he heard the chanting of Lord Rama's name and while searching for the source of the voice, the King discovered a stone idol of Lord Hanuman in seated posture. The voice was coming from the idol and the King offered his prayers to the idol and went back to his capital. At that night, Lord appeared in King’s dream and asked him to construct a temple and later a temple was built at that place. The temple was under the control of Kakatiya kings. After 400 years, Aurangzeb and his armies tried to invade the temple; however, they could not even step close to the compound wall. Aurangzeb himself went with a crow bar to break down the temple; however, he heard a voice from the heavens, “Mandir todna hai rajan, to kar man ghat" (translation: "If you want to break down the temple, O King, harden your heart."). Thus the place got the name kar-man-ghat.

Architecture

The temple is facing east. Other than the main deity, the temple houses many other shrines. The temple walls are sculpted with idols of gods and goddesses. The temple stories are written on black marble stone and placed on the temple area.
