Located in the Burujupeta area of Visakhapatnam, Sri Kanaka Maha Lakshmi Temple is a famous temple dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi. Sri Kanaka Maha Lakshmi Ammavaru is the family deity of the then "Rajas of Visakhapatnam". The temple is unique in a way that it is situated at the center of the road.
Legend
Sri Kanaka Maha Lakshmi Ammavaru is the family deity of the then "Rajas of Visakhapatnam". The locality where the idol was found is called "Burujupeta" since it was near "Buruju" of the "Fort" of the then rulers of Visakhapatnam. According to the legends, the Idol of Godess was taken out from the well in 1912 and was installed at the center of the road. However, the idol was shifted from admidst the road to a corner of the road for the purpose of widening the road. In 1917, Plauge spread over the town and many died. People believed that the plauge occurred due to shifting of idol of goddess. So they re-erected the idol to its original place.After that the disease was cured.
Architecture
The temple is situated at the center of the road. It does not have a roof. There is a hall of worship created adjoining the temple.

Special Rituals
During the one month festival (Margasiramasa Mahothsvam), every year, nearly 300 persons are fed daily. Nearly 600 people are fed on Thursdays on Saswatha Annadanam and approximately 10 thousand people are fed on the last day of the festival by collecting donations from the philanthropists.
