Sri Chamarajashwara Temple

Chamarajashwara is a historical and ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located at Chamarajanagar, Karnataka. The temple was built in 1826 AD by Mummadi Krishna Raja Wodeyar in the memory of his father Sri Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar. Mummadi Krishna Raja Wodeyar installed the Chamarajeswara Linga in this temple.

Architecture
The more than 70 feet height five storey Rajagopuram with five glittering brass "Kalasha" facing east is a wonderful specimen of the south Indian style of Hoysala architecture. The temple has big stage on either side in front of the temple. The stage witnesses the Cultural Utsav during the special occasions. There are carvings of Lord Ganesha at left and Goddess Chamundeshwari at right on either side of the main entrance of the temple. The temple has a sanctum sanctorum or a garba griha, an open pillared hall or a muukha mandapa and a Nandi mandapa. These mandapas have carved images of gods and goddesses.
