Ramatheertham Sri Rama Temple
Andhra Pradesh, Vizianagaram, Amaravathi

Sri Ramaswamy Temple is an ancient temple situated at Ramatheertham dedicated to Lord Rama along with Sita Devi and Lakshmana. Built on a huge rock on a hill named Bavikonda, the temple is believed to be 1000 years old. According to the Puranas, the idols of Sri Rama, Sita Devi and Lakshmana were installed and worshipped by Pandavas during their 12 years exile.
Legend
According to the legends, Lord Rama, Sita Devi and Lakshmana spent time at this place during their exile period. In Dvapara Yuga, Pandavas also spent their exile at this place. Sree Krishna created Rama, Seetha and Lakshmana Idols with his Divine powers and gave them to Pandavas to offer prayers. Pandavas built a Temple for those idols and offered prayers. They handed over the temple to a scholar named Vedagarbha before leaving the place. Over the years, due to invasion, the descendants of Vedagarbha hidden those idols. One day an old woman with speech disability was forced to stay in the forest due to bad weather. That night she saw an aura in the form of Rama, Sita and Lakshmana and they told her to inform about the idols to the King. Before disappearing, they wrote holy letters on her tongue and the woman started to speak. Following the instructions of the old woman, the King asked to search the place and found the idols from the water underneath the Earth. He built a temple for Lord Rama there and thus the place got the name Ramatheertham.
