Sri Ram Tirath Temple dates back to the period of Ramayana and is considered as the place where the ashram of sage Valmiki was situated. A large number of tourists and devotees visit the place especially during the annual fair held on the full moon day in November. Ascetics and sages also come here to meditate and worship Lord Rama.
Legend
According to the mythology, Ram Tirth is situated at the place where the revered sage Valmiki had his ashram. It is believed that he gave shelter to Sita devi after she was ousted from Ayodhya. She gave birth to her sons Luv and Kush here. Hindu mythology also states that the epic fight between Luv-Kush and their father, Lord Rama, took place at Ram Tirath. It was also here, that the sage wrote the epic Ramayana.
Architecture
The temple complex consists of a series of temples. The sanctum supported by pillars has the image of Lord Rama. The temple complex also contains a hut and a tank. Goddess Sita is believed to have stayed at the hut . The tank is believed to have been dug by Lord Hanuman. The shrine has a monumental statue of Lord Hanuman. There are also huge statues of Lord Rama and various depictions of Ramayana all around the shrine.
