Pannipagam Mahadevar Temple

Amid the lush green paddy fields and plantations, near the foothills of Mookkunnimala, is the sixth temple in the Shivalaya ottam circuit, the Pannipagam Mahadevar temple. The Lord here is in the form of Kirathamurthy or the hunter incarnation.

Legend

The God here is believed to be in the form of Kirathaka Murthi or hunter. Lord Shiva had taken this incarnation to hunt the demon Mookasura who took the form of a wild boar. The Lord had also blessed Arjuna who was performing penance, with Pashupathiasthra.

This temple is part of the famous Shivalaya Ottam.

Architecture

This is a small temple built in Tamil architectural style. The Vimana or the roof above the sanctum is well sculpted.The temple has a state of Nandi wherein, the bull sits in a mandapa surrounded by lamps facing his Lord. The temple is built in stone. The temple also has a statue of Kala Bhairava, the fierceness of the Lord.

Pannipagam Mahadevar temple timings :5.00 AM to 11.00 AM and 5.00 PM to 8.00 PM. The temple is a part of the famed Shivalaya ottam conducted during Shivratri. It is the sixth temple in the run sequence.

Darsan Dresscode

Devotees are advised to wear clean and traditional clothing. Western attire are not allowed in the temples of Tamil Nadu
