Mahamandir Shiva Temple

Located in the Jodhpur district of Rajasthan, Mahamandir, literally meaning the massive temple is a shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built in 1812 it is one of the prime attractions of the city of Jodhpur, its splendid architectural brilliance attracting devotees as well as tourists.
Legend
The shrine was a gift from the ruler of Jodhpur as a place which amalgamates sacred holiness with serene tranquility. The temple was also built for the propagation of yoga and yogic practices. The monastery inside the premised was said to be constructed for the priests dedicated to the service of the Jodhpur royal court.
Architecture
The Mahamandir Shiv temple is known for its architectural beauty which attracts devotees as well as tourists from all over. It stands on 84 carved pillars, and is decorated with figures depicting Yoga postures, a sight to behold. The temple has a beautifully designed hall that is used for Yoga classes. Several shrines and temples are located in the premises of Mahamandir Temple. Walls and pillars of the temple are adorned with traditional motifs.
